What is a dynamic QR code?

A dynamic QR code holds a short redirect link instead of the final web address. Scanning it opens the short link, which forwards to wherever you set it. That lets you change the destination after the code is printed and count every scan, which a static code cannot do.

Static versus dynamic

A static code stores the full address in its pattern. It works forever, but it can never be changed or counted. A dynamic code stores a short link; the pattern stays the same while the destination can change.

Why the domain on the link matters

The short link inside a dynamic code belongs to whoever owns its domain. On your own domain, the code keeps working whatever happens to any provider; on someone else's, it lasts only as long as their service and terms do.

Make it scan well

Shorter links make simpler patterns that scan from further away. Keep dark modules on a light background, leave a quiet border around the code, and test it printed at its real size.

Quick answers

Do dynamic QR codes expire?

Not on their own. A code stops working only if the short link behind it is switched off, which is why owning that link's domain matters.

Can I make a dynamic code from a static one?

No. A printed static code always opens the address in its pattern. Reprint it as a dynamic code to gain counting and repointing.
